Ambleside battled back from 2-0 down before drawing 2-2 against league leaders Wigton at The Cinderovens playing surface in Kendal. Wigton who going into the game had won two from two after having conceded just one goal made a dominant start and were 2-0 up in quick succession. However Ambleside began to create opportunities after they searched for a way back into the game with Donna Robinson and Maddie Townson going close. And Ambleside pulled a goal back close to half time following a clinical strike from Donna Robinson with the visitors 2-1 up at the break. Wigton tried to extend [...]
Season summary From club coach Amanda Faulkner It’s been a trying season for many reasons, but all our players have shown improvement in both skill and confidence, and I am positive they will continue to go from strength to strength. Thanks to our captains and vice captains, Kim, Sheelagh, Megan and Jill and to Caroline for organising the umpires, who have led our teams superbly all season, it’s not easy organising the teams, and we do appreciate an early response from the players when the teams have been selected. In the Cumbria League we finished 6th, it was a tough season, [...]
Match report: vs Ulverston (H) and Keswick 1s (A) Ambleside were once again in action twice this weekend, facing Ulverston at home on Saturday and Keswick 1s at Cockermouth on Sunday. A thrilling match against Ulverston was a real confidence booster for the team, who dominated for the most part. Time and time again in the first half Ambleside tested their opponent''s defence, with Jess, Lucy and Rio working as excellently as a unit, tearing up and down the pitch. With Maddie, Polly and Caroline always dangerous on the front line, it was surprising that Ambleside reached half time without scoring. [...]
Ambleside travelled to Cockermouth this weekend to play Keswick 2nds in the Cumbria League. With eleven players only, it was a tough game to play in, with Tiff impressive in her first game. The Greens played with grit and tenacity, always looking dangerous on the break, with Emily on the end of excellent passes from Lucy, and Kylah, playing centre forward, proving to be a real handful. Jess worked tirelessly in midfield , with Mary providing solid support and Tiff played well in her first taste of competitive hockey. Val, Sheelagh, Kim and Jemma had the edge over the opposition with [...]
A double match weekend proved a challenge at the beginning of half term, with a number of first team players absent through illness and injury. Saturday saw 10 players line up against Dalston, but we were competitive from the start with Sheelagh supporting the midfield duo of Rio and Mary, trying to find the pass for the forwards to create opportunities to score. Polly and Emily on the wings never stopped running causing defensive errors, enabling Amber to pounce onto the loose ball. Defensively we were solid, Jill, Kim and Val controlled the majority of the situations, making clean tackles and distributing the [...]
