After a fighting 3-1 loss against Keswick, Ambleside bounced straight back with a 7-1 victory against Dalston in the Cumbria League.
The Greens enjoyed the majority of the play in the first half, but struggled to find their best form against a Dalston side who defended with great resolve, their Goalkeeper putting in an impressive display. However, Ambleside’s perseverance paid off, securing the breakthrough with two first half goals from Maddie and Donna.
A few tweaks to the system in the second half proved more lucrative, as more expansive play enabled the team to break through the stubborn defence. The midfield in particular shone, with player of the match Rio ably supported by Donna and Jess. Chances came at regular intervals, and Maddie soon added her second before Ailsa topped off a great personal performance with a goal.
Ambleside’s goalkeeper of the day was Janet, who showed she had not lost her skills even though she has not played for some time! When called upon she made some excellent saves and was unlucky with the goal against her.
Despite the setback, Rio then scored a well-deserved goal, number five of the afternoon for Ambleside, before Amanda added the 6th and Jess scored goal 7 with a great strike after one of her individual forays into the ‘D’.
A fine performance by the whole squad, having two substitutes really helped maintain the momentum, as this clearly showed with the result.
