Ambleside 1 vs 1 Keswick 2s
Missing several players, Ambleside came up against tough opponents in Keswick's second team but were left ruing missed chances.
Beaten 7-0 last time out against league leaders Carlisle, Ambleside were keen to bounce back with a good showing against Keswick. A much changed team started brightly, with the back four of Emma Houlihan, Amanda Faulkner, Ailsa Richardson and Megan Carradus solid at the back and giving Ambleside a strong base to play the ball forward from.
The Greens continued to build momentum throughout the first half, creating several chances. Both Polly and Roisin were unlucky to be thwarted by some excellent play by the Keswick goalkeeper.
Half time arguably came at a bad time for Ambleside and they were caught out soon after the break when Keswick bundled the ball pass the reach of Caroline Cropper in the Ambleside goal.
Despite the setback, the Greens continued to push for a equaliser, finally finding the breakthrough with a sensational goal by Lucy Dixon, who coolly lifted the ball high over the keeper and into the net.
Both teams continued to push forward and create opportunities, but ultimately the draw was a fair result.
Megan Carradus was voted player of the match for another strong performance, keeping
Ambleside continue to improve, playing good hockey and creating chances. They will be keen to make the most of them in their next match as they take on Keswick's first team at home next Saturday.
